Guide to St Tropez

Introduction

Welcome to The Hamptons of Europe. Put firmly on the map by Brigitte Bardot in the 1950s, St Tropez is one of the chicest holiday destinations around and you can see why. Attracting everyone from well-known faces of the past, to a-list movie stars of today, it is clear St Tropez is a favourite for those seeking luxury. Found on the magical Cote d’Azur, the seaside town has it all – picturesque beaches, phenomenal restaurants, a relaxed atmosphere and luxury villas in abundance (after the luxury yachts of course!).

The port is the heart of St Tropez and is the ultimate place to be seen. Choose one of the stylish pavement cafes, order a cold glass of rosé and enjoy endless people-watching, or stroll around admiring the endless collection of yachts.

For those who want to get a taste of what the French Riviera was like a few years ago, then head to Escalet and Hyeres. Here you will discover quaint beaches, a crystal clear sea and a laid back family-friendly atmosphere.

A visit to Plage de Pampelonne should not be missed (when you can pull yourself away from your luxury St Tropez villa!). Here you will find some of St Tropez’s best beach clubs and parties throughout the summer months. The most iconic remains Le Club 55. You will be welcomed by lush, green landscapes framing the wooden pathways. This beach club has maintained a rustic-chic vibe, with all of the tables and chairs placed onto the sand and there are no walls so the sea breeze can flow through keeping you cool. If you need a little more help though, get some rosé over ice – it’s a firm favourite.

St Tropez is more than just a place to see and be seen. Escape to the picturesque cove of L’escalet Beach, wander through the street market near Place des lices, or visit the Annonciade Museum – a 16th-century chapel home to a modern art collection. Or take a day trip to Port Grimaud, often called ‘Little Venice”. There is so much to see and discover all before returning to your luxury villa.

Our luxury villas in St Tropez catered to every taste and requirement whilst all being unashamedly fabulous. Whether you want modern and contemporary, traditional french riviera architecture, sea views, a private location, or quick access to the beach, we will be sure to find the perfect St Tropez villa rental for you and your group.

We don’t do ordinary here. We are a small team of experienced travel specialists, no request is too big or too small, so please do ask for our advice if you are planning to book a luxury villa in St Tropez.

Things to do

Best for sundowners

Pampelonne is the ultimate spot to watch the gorgeous sunset with a cocktail in hand. We recommend booking one of the restaurants in advance as it is on everyone’s radar.

Le TIGrr at the Hotel Ermitage offers a wonderful view over the village and is the ideal spot for a romantic long summer night, with delicious food to match.

Best restaurants

L’Auberge des Maures is the oldest restaurant in town, found within a beautiful old Provençal house. They have a fabulous terrace in the summer – the perfect spot for al fresco dining.

The legendary Club 55 is a must-visit whilst in St Tropez. This lavish Provencal beach club offers a Mediterranean seafood feast served up in a picturesque location.

Located right beside the famous Place des Lices, Brasserie des Arts is chic as can be. Classic is the defining word to use about this place: the bar serves classic cocktails and the kitchen serves incredible classic French and international dishes. Plus, the dinner-party vibes kick in in the evening, with many dancing on the tables at the end of the night.

Best for exploring

Take a day trip out to Ramatuelle where you can lose yourself in the winding streets and traditional buildings. St Tropez will feel like it’s miles away.

St Tropez is home to numerous wineries and vineyards, many of which produce a selection of the finest wines in France. Château Barbeyrolles is highly recommended.

If you want to hire a boat, then head to the mysterious Iles des Lerins, a group of little islands just off from Cannes.

St Tropez essential visit

Try a slice of Tarte Tropézienne from the original ‘La Tarte Tropézienne Bakery’ in Place des Lices where it was created back in 1955. There is no better way to start the day with this mouth-watering pastry and a coffee in hand.

Best Beaches

Pampelonne plage offers a 5km long stretch of white sand, clear water and a selection of luxurious restaurants and beach clubs for you to enjoy.

Plage des Salins is a little further away but as beautiful, as it is positioned amongst a luscious green landscape. There is also a high-end fish restaurant perfect for a long summer lunch.

For a quieter and more family-friendly atmosphere, Bouillabaisse beach is a perfect spot.

When to Visit

The summer months are when St Tropez really comes alive. The quieter months tend to be April to June, and then the crowds arrive to make the most of the warm weather, warm waters and long summer evenings. If you want to see some of the most impressive yachts, then time your luxury villa holiday with the Antipodes Film Festival, usually from the end of September until the beginning of October.

Getting Here

The closest airports are at Nice or Marseille, and some smaller airlines have flights to St Tropez which arrive at the nearby Toulon-Hyeres Airport.

Hiring a car isn’t recommended during the summer months as the traffic can be quite bad – a taxi is a great option or a chauffeur who will be familiar with the roads.  Please do ask our team if you would like us to organise a private driver service for you.

We recommend hiring a boat for the day to explore some of the more of the French Riviera and can also explore nearby Nice or the mysterious Iles des Lerins. Just let us know what you’d like to do and our team will be able to organise something extra special.

Our website offers a small flavour of the many houses we work with and some of our owners prefer to remain anonymous.
