Guide to Zakynthos

One of Greece’s best-known beauty hot spots, Zakynthos is an island boasting lush greenery and a stunning shoreline of sandy beaches. Whilst some may know this stunning Greek island as a party destination, there is so much more, making it a villa holiday paradise.

Famed for their natural, unspoilt beauty, fine white volcanic sand and turquoise waters, the beaches of Zakynthos are what draws back visitors every year.  Whether you want to discover rugged natural beaches nestled in rocky formations, private, pine-clad islets for total seclusion, or vibrant beach clubs right on the sand, this greek island has something for everyone.  There is no better way to explore all of the beaches on the island than by chartering a boat – be sure to head to the stunning Shipwreck bay and marvel at the amazing blue-water caves.

Zakynthos is an island full of character. As you head inland, you will discover traditional stone-clad villages hidden in the pine-covered mountains. The west of the island is the place to go for hidden coves and to witness some of the best sunsets anywhere in the Mediterranean.  And the southern and eastern coastlines boast luxury private homes and stunning holiday villas, as well as popular restaurants, local tavernas and VIP beach clubs. From the charming harbour of Agios Nikolaos and the small coastal village of Keri – to the family-oriented resort of Tsivili, Zakynthos is the perfect summer destination for both friends and families.

You’ll never tire of things to do on this Greek island. For the day trip trips away from your luxury villa rental, you can take a boat trip to Marathonisi, also known as Turtle Island. This is an island entirely uninhabited aside from the endangered loggerhead turtles. Or visit the ‘World’s Best Beach’ – Navagio Beach, which has the iconic shipwreck in the middle of the beach.  Or enjoy a fresh seafood lunch in one of many pretty village tavernas.

Our luxury Zakynthos villas can be found in some of the prettiest parts of the island, with breathtaking views from the moment you wake up. Whether you are looking for a family-friendly villa with a private pool and plenty of surrounding space to play, or a romantic beachfront villa, we will be sure to find the perfect Zakynthos villa rental for you and your group.

We don’t do ordinary here. We are a small team of experienced travel specialists, no request is too big or too small, so please do ask for our advice if you are planning to book a luxury villa in Zakynthos.

Things to do

L’ été Sunset Bar – Breath-taking sunsets accompanied by refreshing signature cocktails, delicious fresh dishes & lounge vibes in an idyllic landscape. With a panoramic terrace overlooking the amazing sunset over Keri cliffs, there is no place on the island quite like this.

Movida Sky Bar & Restaurant – Perched on top of Bochali Hill, close to the Venetian Castle, Movida Sky Bar & Restaurant is an elegant and unique venue, serving some of the best views found on the island. Sit back with a cocktail and take in the panoramic vistas over Zakynthos Town and the Ionian Sea.

The Club House at Porto Zante – The upscale Club House is open to non-guests and offers a menu of exquisite cocktails and gourmet dishes. The view here is the real deal, spanning the sparkling Ionian Sea and the neighbouring island of Kefalonia.

Best restaurants

Melia Fine Dining at Lesante Blu hotel – Awarded with one FNL star and named as ‘Best Fine Dining Luxury Unique Experience in Southern Europe 2020’ Exceptionally prepared by Executive Chef Nikos Ispiroudis will take you through a memorable gastronomic journey accompanied perfectly with the wine list, selected and served by the Head Sommelier.

Malanos – This much-loved family-run taverna, set amid fields on the southern outskirts of town 2km from the centre, is renowned on the island. For an authentic Greek dining experience, it’s unbeatable.

Best for exploring

Rent a boat – Take a day trip along the beautiful coastline, stopping off at secret coves and stunning caves.

Visit the next-door island of Kefalonia – Discover this sunny island, which is home to several fantastic attractions, including the Melissani underwater lake and Myrto Beach.

Explore Volimes – Considered one of the island’s best-kept secrets, the little mountainous village boasts narrow alleys and local produce for you to try.

Best Beaches

Shipwreck Beach – Accessible only by boat, the Shipwreck Beach (or Navagio in Greek) provides the perfect setting for those seeking clear, turquoise waters and white sand, all set between majestic cliffs.

Porto Vromi – Deep, crystal-clear waters and white sand make this small beach an excellent choice for some downtime. Almost enclosed within the rocks that surround it, this beach is as private and undisturbed as it can be.

Porto Azzuro – This is a popular beach, with lots of umbrellas and water sport as well as the popular Porto Azzuro Beach Bar.

Zakynthos essential visit

Spotting turtles – Boat rental is an unforgettable experience, as you can drive the vehicle independently to look for and observe the turtles, also making additional stops in the less touristy coves and bays of Zakynthos.

When to Visit

The summer months are when Zakynthos really comes alive. The quieter months tend to be April to June, and then the crowds arrive to make the most of the warm weather, warm waters and long summer evenings. September and October are both magical times for Zakynthos, where you will feel like you have the place to yourself and the temperature is a little cooler.

Getting Here

Zakynthos has its own airport – Zakynthos Airport “Dionysios Solomos”. You can also travel by ferry if this is preferred.

Hiring a car is recommended if you want to explore the delights of this incredible island yet it can be extremely busy with long queues at the airport during the summer months. Please do ask our team if you would like a luxury vehicle delivered to your private Zakynthos villa on arrival.

We recommend hiring a boat for the day to explore the coastline of Zakynthos and its many bays. Just let us know what you’d like to do and our team will be able to organise something extra special.

Our website offers a small flavour of the many houses we work with and some of our owners prefer to remain anonymous.
