Guide to Mykonos

Introduction

The captivating and cosmopolitan Greek island of Mykonos is a must-visit for all. Full of contrasts and character, it is clear why this fabulous island has become a favourite for many of our clients. The arid and rocky landscape of the island is the perfect backdrop to the stunning white architecture and the numerous stretches of beautiful sandy beaches are home to stylish beach bars and timeless tavernas. Mykonos combines sophistication and simplicity, offering villa holidays filled with peaceful sandy beaches plus glitz, glamour and authentic Greek charm.

Known for its turquoise waters and secluded beaches, Mykonos is home to some of the Mediterranean’s most popular beaches, with a varied coastline offering so much to be discovered.

The fun doesn’t stop after the sunsets. Mykonos has a chic and lively nightlife that has attracted many over the years. Spend the days at fabulous beach clubs and then dance from the day into the night by continuing the fun at elegant nightclubs and international parties. If quieter evenings are more your style, then head to ‘Little Venice’ in Mykonos Town for a wonderful waterfront dinner.

Our Luxury Mykonos villas to rent are found across the island. Whether you want to be close to Mykonos Town, or rent a luxury villa near the beach such as Ornos, Agios Ioannis and Paradise Beach, we will have the perfect summer holiday villa for you. Plus, many of our luxury villas come with a variety of facilities depending on your desires. Whether you want a Mykonos luxury villa with an infinity pool, a large sun terrace for al fresco dining, or a hot tub for full relaxation, we have it all.

We don’t do ordinary here. We are a small team of experienced travel specialists, no request is too big or too small, so please do ask for our help in finding you the perfect luxury holiday villa in Mykonos to rent.

Things to do

Best for sundowners

Caprice – Caprice Mykonos is a renowned romantic and enchanting bar with impressive cocktails and is one of the best spots to watch the sunset.

Scorpios – Famous for its prime location for watching the sunset. Scorpios offers good food, great cocktails, chilled vibes and an unforgettable view of the sunset.

Alemagou – With a laid-back atmosphere, well-loved Greek recipes, and a prime location on Ftelia Beach, a visit to Alemagou at sunset should not be missed.

Best restaurants

Hippie Fish – First built in the 1960s, Hippie Fish is an iconic restaurant beside the sea located in Agios Ioannis. Mainly serving fish, seafood and Mediterranean dishes, we highly recommend booking a table here.

Kiki’s – This bare-bones taverna near Agios Sostis Beach may look like nothing special, but it is known as one of the best places for lunch on Mykonos. This alfresco restaurant serves incredible seafood in an unpretentious setting.

Nammos – Since 2003 Nammos is often referred to as the ‘Best Restaurant in Europe.’ Located at Psarou beach, Nammos combines endless fun and uncompromising luxury, alongside delectable cuisine.

Best for exploring

Chora – Mykonos’ picturesque capital, Chora, is a pedestrian maze of narrow streets with cubic whitewashed houses, with picture-perfect scenes everywhere you turn.

Little Venice – Little Venice is one of the most romantic places in Mykonos. It is a colourful neighbourhood between the Castro and Scarpa, with wooden balconies “hanging” above the sea.

Windmills – There are currently 16 windmills on Mykonos of which seven are positioned on the landmark hill in Chora. Most of them were built by the Venetians in the 16th century and are well worth a visit.

Mykonos essential visit

We recommend hiring a sailing boat to discover more of beautiful Mykonos and its secret coves and beaches.

Best Beaches –

Ornos – Located just 3 km from Mykonos Town, Ornos is one of the most popular beaches on Mykonos. This crescent-shaped beach is perfect for families and those wanting to enjoy a long beachside lunch at one of the many tavernas.

Agios Sostis – Agios Sostis is on the northern part of the island, away from the centre, and therefore remains unspoiled, and is among the quietest beaches of the island due to its location.

Panormos – Panormos Beach, is one of the cosiest and most relaxed sandy beaches in Mykonos island. This colourful and natural beach is in the northern part of the island and can only be reached by car.

When to Visit

May and June on the island of Mykonos is the best time to visit to escape the crowds. July and August see record temperatures around the 30s and lazing by the pool of your luxury villa is idyllic. Temperatures drop to mid-twenties in September and October but the island is less busy and it’s a wonderful time to go.

Getting Here

Mykonos has an international airport located 4 kilometres from the town of Mykonos.

Hiring a car isn’t recommended during the summer months as the traffic can be quite bad – a taxi is a great option or a chauffeur who will be familiar with the roads.  Please do ask our team if you would like us to organise a private driver service for you.

We recommend hiring a boat for the day to explore some of the more hidden coves and beaches around the island, just let us know what you’d like to do and our team will be able to organise something extra special.

Our website offers a small flavour of the many houses we work with and some of our owners prefer to remain anonymous.

So simply get in touch to find the villa that perfectly matches your criteria.
