Guide to Cote d'Azur

Introduction

The beautiful coastline of the Côte d’Azur has it all – warm Mediterranean sunshine, picture-perfect coastal towns, stunning beaches and glamorous residents. The French Riviera is the ultimate setting for a luxurious summer holiday with a vast range of activities to suit any personality and taste.

Gaining its name from the clear turquoise sea which surrounds its coastline, the Côte d’Azur has been loved by artists for years for its varied landscapes, picturesque medieval hilltop villages, and beautiful countryside only a short distance away. As you wander through the suburbs and villages you will discover boutique shops and artistic influences everywhere you look.

Cap d’Antibes is ideal for family holidays, despite its exclusive reputation, as there is little traffic and an abundance of natural parks, plus breathtaking beaches. Your luxury Côte d’Azur villa will be just a few minutes from the sea – perfect for those seeking a luxury beach break.

Once a small fishing village, Cannes is now a glamorous and luxurious seaside resort, which provides visitors with high-class nightlife, casinos, restaurants and endless designer shopping. You can’t mention this fabulous holiday destination without mentioning the Cannes Film Festival. Arriving in May, this week-long event entertains the rich and famous, with “soiréés”  and parties last long into the evening. If you would prefer to be a little future away from the vacation, renting a luxury villa in the hills of Super Cannes is a perfect option – and you’ll get to enjoy panoramic sea views over the bay of Cannes!

Foodies will want to stay in a luxury villa in Mougins. Known for its gourmet cuisine, it has around 50 restaurants and more Michelin rated restaurants than any other region on the French Riviera.

Often called the pearl of the French Riviera, the fabulous seaside village of St Jean Cap Ferrat is a heavenly destination for those wanting to escape from city life. Here you can expect a quieter place and complete privacy, whilst only being a short trip away from Nice and Monaco.

It doesn’t get more fabulous than Monaco. Casinos, superyachts, stunning villas and luxury cars. Who wouldn’t love that? Monaco is tucked inside the Maritime Alps between the French and Italian Riviera on the Mediterranean Sea, and oozes glamour and exclusivity, and is ideal for a luxury summer villa holiday. Time your trip with the Formula 1 Grand Prix for a once in a lifetime experience, and be sure to visit the Monte Carlo Casino whilst you’re here.

The glamour of the French Riviera takes many forms, which is precisely why our edited choice of luxury villas in the Cote d’Azur features everything from contemporary, modern private homes, traditional villas and converted farmhouses. Rent a luxury Cote d’Azur villa and discover the area’s eclectic mix of traditional villages, vibrant towns and cities, stunning beaches and world-renowned nightlife.

We don’t do ordinary here. We are a small team of experienced travel specialists, no request is too big or too small, so please do ask for our help in finding you the perfect luxury villa in Cote d’Azur for rent.

Things to do

Best for sundowners

Anjuna Plage Beach Club in Eze is where you want to head for a sundowner. This chic beach club is found within a pretty cove at the foot of the cliffs – plus if you want to arrive on your yacht you can get delivery to your boat – bliss!

Reserve de la Mala in Cap d’Ail is cool, chic and very popular amongst ‘the Monaco set’. Think white décor, luxurious day beds and fabulous food and drinks.

For a sophisticated evening, head to Helios in Juan Les Pins to watch the sunset with a magnum and rose and some friends. The menu is excellent too!

Best restaurants

Les Perles de Monte-Carlo is the perfect spot for watching the mega-yachts come and go and serves delicious fresh seafood. You’ll find this treasure hidden away at the end of a pier in Port Fontvielle in Monaco.

Although best reached by boat (unless you are happy with a 15-minute walk down), La Rèserve de Mala in Cap-d’Ail is a stunning beach restaurant serving ice-cold rosè and deliciously fresh food.

For rooftop dining, fresh Italian-Mediterranean fusion food and breathtaking views across Monte Carlo and the Mediterranean, head to the Horizon Deck at the Fairmont.

Best for exploring

Bordering Italy, Menton is a must-see, despite being regularly overlooked. There is a wonderful

fusion between French and Italian culture, architecture, and cuisine, and it boasts a micro-climate that is said to be a few degrees warmer than the rest of France on any given day. When in Menton, be sure to book a table at the 2-Michelin starred Mirazur, which has consistently been ranked in the World’s 50 Best.

Cote d’Azur essential visit

Hôtel du Cap-Eden-Roc in Antibes is a magnet for some of the world’s best-known names, and it is clear why. The ornate, cream-toned Palais has a prime location overlooking the sea and serves delectable cocktails in their chic and buzzy bar.

Best Beaches

The immense bay of Pampelonne is one of the best-known beaches in Cote d’Azur. This Ramatuelle is covered in white sand and the water is beautifully clear too!

Mala beach in Cap d’Ail is picturesque and should definitely be visited. You can reach this on foot down a narrow path and then there are a few beachfront restaurants for you to take a long lunch in.

The small beach of Paloma is found on the Cap Ferrat peninsula and offers beautiful views over the bay of Beaulieu, Cap d’Ail and the Italian coast.

When to Visit

Summer is when the Cote d’Azur truly comes alive. The nights are long, the weather is warm and the atmosphere is electric. You can expect roughly 300 days of sunshine throughout the year, which means even if you want to rent a luxury Cote d’Azur villa during March and April or October and November, you will still be able to enjoy this stunning area. June and September are some of the best months to visit, whilst July and August are at the height of the season.

Getting Here

The main airports for Côte d’Azur are Nice Airport, Toulon-Hyères airport, Marseille Airport and Avignon Airport.

Hiring a car isn’t recommended during the summer months as the traffic can be quite bad – a taxi is a great option or a chauffeur who will be familiar with the roads.  Please do ask our team if you would like us to organise a private driver service.

We recommend hiring a boat for the day to explore some more of the Cote d’Azur and reach some of the secluded bays and restaurants. Just let us know what you’d like to do and our team will be able to organise something extra special.

Our website offers a small flavour of the many houses we work with and some of our owners prefer to remain anonymous.

So simply get in touch to find the villa that perfectly matches your criteria.
